I started playing the practice chanter at the age of 10 being taught by Duncan Watson. We practised at Bucksburn Police station.
I stopped playing for a couple of years until I joined the Bucksburn & District Novice Juvenile band in the winter of 1997. Ian Dallas tutored me and helped me to progress and was soon playing regularly for the band. During my time in the Nov Juv band I was fortunate enough to travel to Taiwan (to open a B&Q store of all things), Spain and Belarus for an International festival.
After playing for 3 years in the Nov Juv band I was moved up to the then Grade 1 band and competed with them for 2 years.
It was at the end of this 2 year stint that the P/M Scott Rhynas was leaving for the Vale and I decided it was time for a change. My dad had played for Grampian Police since 1976 and so I moved there in 2003.
Since moving I feel I have progressed further as a player with help from Drew, Julie and Elaine.
