Clare Miller -
Piper
I began playing the practice chanter when I was 10 years old, taught by PM Kevin Gunn from the Thurso Pipe Band. Kevin soon had me competing at local competitions and playing at events with the band including travelling to Germany in 2002.
In 2000 I also joined the newly formed Caithness Junior Pipe Band where I was given the opportunity to learn the side, tenor and bass drums. To complete the set I became Drum Major for a short while before moving to Aberdeen to study music at college.
In 2005 I was one of the first people in Scotland to qualify with a licentiate of the London College of Music (LLCM) teaching diploma in Scottish traditional music and i’m now teaching youngsters in Aberdeen how to play the pipes.
In 2004, my college piping tutor Julie Brinklow took me down to the Grampian Police practices, which I thoroughly enjoyed. So far I have been to Prague in 2005 and Spain in 2006. |
