Julie Brinklow - Piper

Julie started piping in 1984 at the age of 11 under the instruction of her sister, Elaine Brinklow also of the Grampian Police Pipe Band. At school Julie received instruction from Davie Duncan who really boosted her progress as a young piper

At the age of 17 she joined Stonehaven Pipe Band, Grade 4 under Pipe Major Brian Elrick and gained the benefits of instruction from the Stonehaven Grade 1 Pipe Band.   In 1995, Julie was duly elected Pipe Major of the band and over the next 2 years progressed the band until in 1997, they won Champions of Champions at Cowal and were promoted to Grade 3. Julie continued to progress the band in Grade 3 and in the very next season won 4th prize at Cowal, and 4th Prize at the British, putting them onto the leader table in her 1st season in the new Grade.

In 1999 she decided to further her piping by joining the Grampian Police Pipe Band where she remains. Also in 1999, she started her own business venture, "Thistle Piping" where she provides bagpipe tuition in Aberdeen and surrounding areas.  Julie is the Instrumental Tutor for Bagpipes at Aberdeen University and also is a visiting Tutor amoungst many Aberdeenshire Schools in Huntly & Fraserburgh.
