Grampian Police Pipe Band Finish with Disappointment at Worlds

Grampian Police Pipe Band were left disappointed following their performance at this years World Pipe Band Championships, in Glasgow.

The Police Band joined hundreds of others Bands from throughout the world to compete in a strong Grade 2 field on Saturday 11 August 2007.

Despite the horrendous weather conditions, a feature of this years competitions, the Band played well enough in their heat.  Only the first six Bands qualified from both sections to play in the final and as the Grampian Police Pipe Band were placed seventh, they just failed to qualify for the final.

Pipe Major Drew Sinclair said, "We were really pleased to be in a position to take to the field in the first place.  The current Band have just come together and put in a solid enough  performance.  The weather conditions weren't good, but they were the same for everyone."

PM Sinclair continued "I don't think it was our best performance this year, but in the circumstances, I thought we played well enough and I see from the results that we just missed out on qualification, so naturally we are a little disappointed."

The Worlds marks the end of this years competition season for Grampian Police Pipe Band and looking ahead, PM Sinclair said "Both Nicky Gibson and I will now start planning for next season.  We will look to strengthen certain areas of the Band and will target experienced pipers and drummers to come in during the close season and add to the current Pipe and Drum corps.  We all have work to do to ensure the Band are back competing at the highest level to ensure we meet our expectations and the Bands potential."
