Bill Barclay

I started my pipe band career at the ripe old age of 9, with the Oldmeldrum pipe band under the leadership of PM Sid Ross. I was Bass Drummer there until I moved to Kintore in the early seventies. At the age of 29 with a few medical problems the Bass drum was no longer an option and I decided that I would like to learn the art of a Drum Major. I started this under the watchful eye of D/M Norman Taylor and latterly D/M Bert Summers. I have competed all over the country and been placed on the Champion of Champions table a number of times coming 6th in the Worlds, British and Scottish and coming 5th in the European. In 1993 I left the competing arena to become a D/M Adjudicator and have judged all the Major contests and the majority of Minor's, I have also judged in Holland at the Continental Championships. I have been assisting the Grampian Police Pipeband for the last 3 years as Drum Major and am at present the RSPBA North of Scotland Branch Chairman.

I run my own kilt making business and also make the bands kilts. Please feel free to visit my website www.billskilts.co.uk.
