Busy Time for Band

With a number of public and private events, the past ten days have certainly kept members of Grampian Police Pipe Band busy.
On Friday, April 23rd, a number of players performed at the annual Huntington’s Charity night, organised by the parents of tenor drummer Laura Williamson. The Band has supported this worthwhile cause in Aberdeen for several years and is always well received by an appreciative crowd.
Piper Murray Main, also played at a separate event within Force Headquarters for Sheila McPherson, a member of the executive staff who is retiring.
On Saturday, April 24th Pipe Major Drew Sinclair joined members of the Force in commemorating the lives of police officers and support staff who have died while serving the Force and previous Forces in the area.
The second Grampian Police Memorial Service was held in St Machar's Cathedral, Aberdeen, and was led by Chief Constable Colin McKerracher and Force Chaplain, Rev David Swan.
The names of all 80 personnel were read out during the moving interdenominational service with candles also lit to represent their lives.
Pipe Major Sinclair played a fitting lament to end the service.
On Sunday, April 25th, the Band were back out again, this time playing to a lively audience at the National Police Badminton Championships prize giving dinner at the Marriott Hotel, in Dyce.
Finally, on Sunday May 2nd, the Band turned out to support the official launch of Aberdeenshire Youth Pipes and Drums at their inaugural concert within Inverurie Town Hall. An audience of invited guests and family members saw the Band play several sets before handing over to the youth Band who performed what they have been learning over the past few workshops.
Band Manager Murray Main said: “While the Band has been practicing hard for the forthcoming season, we are really pleased to have also been able to support these worthy events.”
The Band now head to Gourock on Sunday May 9th for this year’s first competition before competiting at the first major of the season in Dumbarton on May 22nd.
