It is with great sadness that the Band has learnt of the recent passing of Ian Blair.
Ian died on Tuesday, December 15, aged 73 years.
Ian was Piper with Aberdeen City and then Grampian Police Pipe Band from the mid fifties to the early eighties.
Ian was part of a highly successful Band who, in 1960, started competing for the very first time. The Band got to Grade II and included high calibre pipers like John Stewart, Jimmy Hamilton and Jimmy Christie.
He played for the renowned Pipe Major Donald Morrison, himself a world leading player of his day, as well as other Pipe Majors including the afore mentioned John Stewart and Jimmy Christie.
Ian's funeral will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, December 22, within Midstocket Parish Church, Aberdeen, and thereafter the interment will be at the Trinity Cemetery.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Ian's wife Kathleen, and the rest of family at this sad time.
