Grampian Police Pipe Band swept the boards this weekend when they won both the grade 2 and grade 1 competitions at the annual local Branch Mini Pipe Band Competitions, on Saturday 21 March 2009, at St Machar Academy, Aberdeen.
The Band entered just one mini band in each of the competitions. Playing the new medley selection for the first time, the best performance was saved for the grade 1 competition where the Band were placed first in both piping and drumming, beating nearest rivals Buchan Pipe Band.
Speaking after the event, Pipe Major Drew Sinclair said, “I felt we played well, especially in the grade 1 competition. It was the first time we have played the new medley in public and whilst there’s still work to be done on it, there was a nice relaxed feel to the playing and the sound was solid and held throughout.”
Drew continued, “We know we have work to do as a Band to get ourselves ready for the first Major Competition in May but overall, I’m relatively pleased the way the Band is sounding and progressing.”
