Pipers Graduate

PDQB

Three members of Grampian Police Pipe Band have successfully gained distinguished qualifications in Piping.

Pipe Sergeant Colin Walker and Pipers Julie Brinklow and Scott Brown each gained their level 4 piping certificates.

The new qualifications, first introduced on 1 January 2007, are issued by the Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board (PDQB) on behalf of 5 partner organisations, namely the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming, the National Piping Centre, the College of Piping; the Piobaireachd Society; and the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association.

The challenging course syllabus requires each candidate to demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding in maintenance, setting up pipes, exercises, playing and theory.

Not satisfied with gaining her level 4 certificate, Julie Brinklow also gained her Tutors Certificate, scoring full marks in the written exam.

Julie explained: “I really wanted to do my tutors certificate to support the work I do in schools with Thistle Piping.  Doing both courses was hard work but well worth it.”

Congratulations to all three candidates.
