Police Band Make Flying Start to Season

Grampian Police Drummers Prepare for Scottish ChampionshipsGrampian Police Pipe Band has started their season on a high by winning the first Major Pipe Band Championships of the season.

 

The Band got their season off to the perfect start with a comprehensive win in the grade 2 competition when they took to the field at the 100 Pipers Scottish Pipe Band Championships in a sunny Levengrove Park, Dumbarton on Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

 

The Band, who are sponsored by Aberdeen based The Balmoral Group, recorded their second consecutive win of the season having earlier picked up a first prize at the Gourock Highland Games, on Sunday May 9th 2010

 

Playing in their new blue shirts with blue and silver ties, the Police Band was placed 1st in piping, 1st in ensemble and 5th in drumming.

 

17 Bands took to the field in a competitive Grade 2 March, Strathspey and Reel competition.

 

Pipe Major Drew Sinclair said, "We couldn't have wished for a better start."

The Scottish Pipe Band Championships is one of the five ranking championships staged annually by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association attracting over 130 pipe bands from Britain, from Europe and further a field.

 

The Band can next be seen competing locally in Turriff on Sunday, June 6th and Aberdeen on Sunday, June 20th.
