Band Takes Second at Worlds

Grampian Police Pipe Band, Runners Up, Grade 2 Worlds 2010Grampian Police Pipe Band has come second in the World Cup of piping.

The band was runner-up in the Grade 2 category at the World Piping Championships at the weekend.

Now the band is gearing up for a new piping season – and aiming to go one better next year.

Band manager Inspector Murray Main said: "To come second at the premier competition for pipe bands is an incredible achievement.

"The band has worked extremely hard all year and consistently improved with every competition we've taken part in.

"We're delighted with the result and hope to go on to even better things next year."

The band, sponsored by Aberdeen-based Balmoral Group, was pipped at the post by Irish pipe band Ravara at the World Championships, held at Glasgow Green on Saturday, August 14.

Inspector Main added: "It was a real team effort and a credit to all who took part, police, police staff and civilians who have chosen to play with the best pipe band in the north east.

"But particular praise should go to Pipe Major Drew Sinclair, Assistant Pipe Major Colin Walker and Leading Drummer Nicky Gibson, who have all played a huge part in the success of the band."

The band will be performing at Aden Park, Mintlaw, on Sunday, August 22 before competing in the final major competition of the season, the Cowal Gathering in Dunoon on Saturday, August 28.
