Leading Drummer Appointed
Grampian Police Pipe Band is delighted to announce the appointment of their new Leading Drummer.
Mr Ian Thompson (37) who is originally from Glasgow takes charge of the drum corps with the newly promoted Grade 1 band.
Ian previously played under Eric Ward at Polkemmet Pipe Band for four years and John Scullion at Scottish Power for nine years. He was leading drummer at Lommond and Clyde Pipe Band before relocating to Aberdeen in 2007, and taking over at Turriff and latterly Culter Pipe Bands.
Ian said: "I'm delighted to be joining a band I've long admired. There are good players in the drum corps and I hope to be able to build something that compliments the pipe corps."
"I will be looking to recruit experienced players to ensure we are ready for the first competitions in May next year."
Band Manager, Chief Inspector Murray Main said: "Ian is very experienced leading drummer with an impressive CV.
He will add real strength and structure to the drum corps and he has a real desire to build on the successes of recent years."

The band presently comprises of thirty-five playing members, of which six are in the Police Force. The remaining members are civilians, drawn from all walks of life from all over the north of Scotland.
