Success at Quartets
Pipers from Grampian Police Pipe Band have taken the top prizes at the first indoor competition of the season.
The Quartet competition, the traditional opener of the local Pipe Band calendar, was held at the High School, Elgin, on Saturday, February 19th.
The Band entered two quartets in grade 2 and grade 1, and players competed against other bands from throughout the North of Scotland.
Assistant Pipe Major Colin Walker led the first quartet while Piper Duncan Edward took charge of the other.
The first group also consisting of Struan Moffat, Fiona Young and Alistair MacLeod played Lord Alexander Kennedy, The Ewe wi the Crooked Horn and The Brown Haired Maid.
The second quartet comprised of Mike Zanre, Blair Milne and Cameron Park played Dougal MacColl's Farewell to France, Atholl Cummers and Mrs MacPherson of Inveran.
Both quartets played thier March, Strathspey and Reel set to adjudicator Pipe Major Trevor Dear.
The first police band took 1st place in both grade 1 & 2. The second band took 2nd place in grade 2, but was beaten into 3rd place in Grade 1 by a strong Buchan quartet.
The Band will next compete at the North of Scotland Mini Bands, on Saturday, March 19th, within the new International School, North Deeside Road, Aberdeen.
