Band Target Fresh Faces
Pipe Major Drew Sinclair has confirmed the Police Band are stepping up their bid to sign new players during the close season.
PM Sinclair has admitted that after securing just the one major title this season, the Scottish Championships in May, the Band need to strengthen all areas if they are to deliver more title winning performances.
He said, "We have a solid group of talented pipers and drummers who have improved and played to a high standard this season. Despite that, we were only able to pick up the one title and that's what ultimately counts."
The Pipe Major added, "At this time of year there is always an element of movement between Bands and speculation about whose coming or going. We aren't planning to loose any players, but we certainly will be adding some."
Pipe Major Sinclair ended any speculation over the future of Leading Drummer Marc Johnson. He added, "At the start of the season when Marc was appointed, we all agreed to review it come the end of the season. When you look at how well his corps have played this year, if not the results, that hasn't happened by chance and the management team agreed, the best person to take the corps forward was Marc."
"Everyone in the Band has confidence in him and his abilities and with a few extra players, I'm sure Marc will soon have one of the top drum corps in Grade 2."
Pipe Major Sinclair admitted that along with Assistant Pipe Major Colin Walker, Marc and Band Manager Murray Main, he has set his sights on adding to the four new players confirmed already for next season.
He said, "We will now see who is available and consider whether to move for them. There are a lot of really good players out there and we will aim to add a number of talented and experienced players to each section."
The names of all new players will be announced later in the year.
