Win Takes Chill off Turriff

Grampian Police Pipe Band continued their good start to the 2011 season by taking the top prizes at the first local contest of the season.

The recently crowned Scottish Champions, won the 39th annual Turriff and District Pipe Band competition at the Haughs, Turriff on Sunday, June 5th, despite the cold and changeable weather conditions.

Playing their MSR set, the Band won the Grade 2 contest for the third consecutive year.  They returned to the ring later in the afternoon with their medley selection and won the Grade 1 competition to make it the perfect start to the local out door competition season.

Pipe Major Drew Sinclair said afterwards:  "The weather hindered all the bands from sounding their best today.  I'm happy we won but we all know we are capable of playing and sounding better."

The Band can next be seen competing locally in Aberdeen on Sunday, June 19th.
