Success For Players at Branch Solo's

Grampian Police Pipe Band are delighted to acknowledge the success of their Band members who participated in this weekend's North Of Scotland Branch Piping and Drumming Solo Competitions.

The competition, which was held on Saturday 3 November 2007, within St Machar Academy, Aberdeen witnessed a strong field of competitors from a number of Bands from throughout the north of Scotland.

Piper Stuart Robertson recorded a 1st in the Slow Air, 15 and under category, a 2nd in the March, 15 and under category and a 1st in the Hornpipe & Jig, 17 and under category.

Piper Alan Clark, recorded a 1st in the March, a 1st in the Strathspey & Reel and a 1st in the Hornpipe & Jig Open competitions.  He also secured the overall adult open prize.

There was also significant success for the Band's drummers. The Band's Leading Drummer, Nicky Gibson, secured a 1st in the March, Strathspey and Reel competition and a 2nd in the Hornpipe & Jig.  That was enough to secure the day's overall top drumming prize.

His number 2, Scott Niven also managed a creditable 3rd place in the March, Strathspey and Reel to bring the Band's tally for the day to eleven trophies.

Pipe Major Drew Sinclair said, "The guys did very well against a lot of really good local players.  Young Stuart Robertson wining the 17 and under category capped an excellent day for him while both Nicky Gibson and Scott Niven did very well in the drumming competitions.  But the day must go to Alan Clark for recording a first in the open March, Strathspey & Reel and Hornpipe & Jig categories.  That's an excellent achievement."

Drew continued, "These results are really good for the players themselves and it mirrors the levels of effort and commitment all the Band members are putting in at the moment.  It will certainly give the whole Band a lift as we continue getting ready for next years majors and local contests."

The Band intend to recruit more experienced pipers and drummers in the coming months and are keen to hear from anyone who believes they have the ability to play in the successful competing Band.  Anyone interested in joining them can get in touch by emailing PipeBand2@grampian.pnn.police.uk
